Year of Call: 2003
Michelle is a specialist costs and PI Barrister and Mediator. She is forward-thinking, approachable and a tenacious advocate.
Michelle was called to the Bar in 2003 after 10 years as helicopter aircrew in the RAF. She is confident, focussed and unflappable. She quickly established and has maintained a loyal and extensive following amongst clients who value her eye for detail and her consistently thorough and meticulous approach.
Naturally skilled at advising and analysing, Michelle is astute, effective and knowledgeable. She has a wealth of experience outside the Bar in numerous fields including military aviation, flight safety, leisure industry management and off-shore, ocean sailing. When added to her 15 years at the Bar as a costs and PI specialist, her status as a mediator and her consultancy experience in-house, she is well placed to provide astute, proportionate, commercially attractive advice.
After specialising in costs and PI for 15 years Michelle’s work at the Bar now focusses primarily on costs work. Although her broad costs practice extends beyond PI and clinical negligence, her extensive experience is a significant asset when dealing with costs arguments throughout the life-cycle of cases from CCMC through principle of costs at the conclusion of the trial, to detailed assessment and beyond. She is equally at home in the County Court or SCCO Her broad costs experience includes: detailed assessment, oral review of provisional assessment, advising on and arguing specific points of law arising as preliminary issues such as recoverability of additional liabilities, application of QoCS, validity of the retainer etc and drafting points of dispute. Michelle deals with cases ranging from £25k to £1.5m+.
Michelle’s practice is geographically extensive and includes presenting regular CPD training sessions, for which she has developed a loyal following. In addition to her costs expertise, with such a varied background, she has an innate ability to deal with cases concerning aviation, aircraft operations, complex occupational injuries, sailing related accidents and injuries sustained during military operations.
When not working Michelle enjoys spending time with her two highly energetic young children, running and sailing when the opportunity arises.
Michelle completed her mediation training in 2003.
