William is an experienced commercial and civil practitioner, with expertise in business and commercial law, particularly insurance and reinsurance; property and land; consumer law and technology & construction, including adjudication. Before coming to the Bar, William enjoyed a 20-year career as a Lloyd’s underwriter, specialising in employee dishonesty, forgery and fraud coverages, commercial crime, professional liability, professional negligence, directors’ and officers’ insurance, employers’, public and general liability, and general property and fire insurance. He was also involved in a number of merger and acquisition transactions, as well as a management buy-out and subsequent sale of a Lloyd’s syndicate as part of the management team.
That substantial commercial background gives William a valuable insight into the realities of business and enables him to identify the real issues in a case quickly. His experience has also been called upon in peer review, expert witness arbitration and adjudication contexts.
He is known for his diligent preparation, attention to detail and approachable manner. Clients value his ability to assimilate complex facts quickly, provide clear written advice and draft with precision.
William is accredited to accept instructions on a Public Access basis and is also a qualified civil and commercial mediator. He enjoys his mediation practice and is well suited to disputes where a commercial, practical and carefully managed resolution is required. He seeks pragmatic, commercially sensible outcomes where possible, while bringing stamina, tenacity and persistence to contested litigation where required.

William has a real passion for environmental issues stemming from a family farming background which includes qualification as a tree surgeon and familiarity with a variety of farming schemes and renewable energy installations.
